How Long Does a Hoverboard Last? (Battery and Unit)

Hoverboard Life SpanTwo of the main questions anyone asks before purchasing a hoverboard are how long the batteries will last on a single charge and how long the hoverboard itself will last.

As long as you take care of your device, it might last you a lifetime. You might need to replace parts from time to time, but you can always use it as long as the body does not break.

As for how long the batteries last, the answer differs from one manufacturer to another. With each model being so different, it’s important to look at this aspect before making a final buying decision.

About Battery Life

There are a number of factors that affect battery life, including:

  • Riding at top speeds
  • The weight of the device and the rider
  • How a rider handles the board
  • The terrain, such as steep inclines and rough surfaces
  • Weather conditions, batteries drain faster in hot temperatures

Under average conditions, the typical hoverboard’s battery lasts anywhere from 8 to 20 miles on a single charge.

That could be anywhere from one hour to four hours depending on the model and its speed. With such a variation in battery life, you need to look into these aspects before deciding on a board. Make sure to read our hoverboard reviews before you decide.

Tips for Boosting Battery Life

Boosting Battery LifeIt doesn’t matter which model or brand you buy, they will work perfectly in the beginning then start to wear down over time. As the battery ages, its capacity decreases, leaving you with a shortened ride time.

It’s the bane of all Lithium Ion batteries, but there are proactive steps you can take to enhance the life of your battery.

Do not let the Lithium Ion cell completely drain out. Once you receive the low power indication from your board, hop off and place it on the charger. When charging your board, always make sure the batteries are back up to 100% before taking it off the charger.

If you take your board to school or work, bring your charger with you to avoid letting the batteries die. This will also keep you from having to walk part of the way home.

Never charge the device when temperatures are extremely hot or cold. Either can result in damage to the battery, circuit board, and other electronic components inside the body of your board.

Another common mistake people make is overcharging the battery. Letting the hoverboard sit fully charged for long periods of time reduces the overall lifespan. Once it reaches a full charge, take it off the charger and wait until you receive the low battery warning again.

Proper Charging

So, how long does a hoverboard last? That all depends on the make, model, and various riding conditions. However, there are plenty of steps you can take to get the longest ride out of your board each time.

Follow these simple preventative measures, and you’ll be able to ride your hoverboard for hours on end. Remember, make sure to see how long the battery lasts before making a final purchase!
